Open Call for Short Stories

Playmaker Motion Pictures is currently seeking previously unpublished works of creative fiction, flash fiction and poetry for the publication of The Travelling Creepshow 2, an anthology of horror writings. We request short stories of 4000 words or less, and poems of any form.

In order to submit, authors must be 18 years of age or order, and own the rights to their work. We accept multiple submissions but request that you have no more than three submissions pending. Authors receive exposure only, no monetary payment.

Formatting requirements:

  • Word documents preferred (but also accept .txt and .rtf)
  • 1” margins, left justified, double spaced
  • Times New Roman, 12 pt. font
  • Please submit poetry as you would like it to appear upon publication, if special formatting is required, please submit both a Word and .PDF document
  • Please include your name and email address in the top left corner of the first page, followed by a word count or poetry line count
  • The title should be centered, with the author’s byline below it, followed by the work  
  • The byline should be written exactly as it would appear upon publication 
  • Please include a brief biographical note at the end of the work (approximately 50 words).

Cinema Carnival

Playmaker Motion Pictures is pleased to annouce the launch of Cinema Carnival (

Cinema Carnival is an online destination for the celebration of short films and promotes the art of cinema and filmmaking by:

  • curating screening nights,

  • program online collections, and

  • provide news, resources and links to exciting short films. 

The first screening night, Cinema Carnival: Frightmares will be on June 12, 2015 at The Park Theatre in Winnipeg, MB Canada. The night will feature fourteen short horror films and live musical entertainment by 'The Webster Project'.

Summer School: Digital Filmmaking

This summer, high school students can earn an elective credit while learning the basics of digital filmmaking.

The course runs weekdays throughout the month of July, and introduce students to the equipment and procedures used in digital video/film editing. Students will complete projects using storyboarding, camera settings, shooting and lighting techniques, video editing, and transition effects. Intended as an introduction to digital video technology and software, students study basic editing concepts, including the aesthetics of good editing, titling, and graphics, digitizing video and basic computer graphics manipulation and effects.
